Today IAM Talking Lean Everywhere - small i to BIG I Innovation with Ken Shropshire, Director of Continuous Improvement from AstraZeneca.

Ken and i also met the other once i was involved in an innovation challenge engagement at the begining of 2012, and Ken was leading the main charge in taking a Lean take a look at innovation opportunities internally.

With this interview we involved roughly 6 months as soon as the first wave of innovation challenges had closed out. Part of the staging of innovation challenges we handled, were specially targeted by using a group of Lean lenses, namely, the �7 Wastes of Lean� - put on both flow, in such cases, process/information flow, as well as in individual or organizational behavior. Which sounds a lot like �business as usual� for big companies� with the exception that by using specific examples, and also the language of Lean, i was capable to make targeted, �judgement neutral� areas to interact real employees, down and up the org chart, to have up to issues and co-create fixes. From an engagement (like �employee engagement�) standpoint, it worked quite well to help you focus their efforts.
The Double-edged Sword of Tenure

Negative credit this engagement, once we used to do employee interviews, we encountered employees who was simply there for 30 years or more. In lots of ways, it�s very easy for long-term employees to become section of the problem from a lean perspective. They�ve experienced the device so long, it can be hard to find out the wastes of lean, and think constant improvement/innovation, but more and more employees gave the impression to really embody good both long-term employees AND constant innovators. Their input turned out to be invaluable however, as they had been around for a specified duration so that you can indicate long-standing issues, and yet not have to result in solving them.
